Geraldton Health Campus Redevelopment reaches key milestones
Work is progressing on the Geraldton Health Campus Redevelopment Project as it moves towards practical completion later this year.
The hospital's exterior is complete and the building is watertight, allowing the internal fit-out and system commissioning such as information and communications technology systems, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing, to proceed.
Finishing touches are being made to the ambulance canopy and emergency department (ED) entry canopy, which will lead patients to the new and reconfigured ED with increased services and capacity.
Additionally, the design has been finalised for the new Radiation Oncology Unit - the first of its kind in the Midwest. The purpose-built facility will enable patients across the region to access care closer to home.Concept images of it have been released as site preparatory works such as earthworks and demolition begin.
Major construction of the Adult Psychiatric Unit is also complete, marking the first major component of the redevelopment to be finished and ready for furniture and equipment to be fitted in the area. Building commissioning of the facility is now taking place ahead of the broader redevelopment opening.
Once complete, the upgraded Geraldton Health Campus will feature an expanded emergency department, a new intensive care unit and high dependency unit, as well as an integrated mental health service comprising an adult mental health inpatient unit and a mental health observation area.
The redevelopment continues to create jobs for locals, with more than $10 million in contracts awarded to Midwest businesses.
The Geraldton Health Campus Redevelopment Project is funded through the State Government's $4.9 billion health infrastructure commitment.
Funding for the Radiation Oncology Unit includes $25.8 million from the State Government and $12.6 million from the Federal Government.
