Pilbara mum praises Karratha Midwifery Group Practice for continuity of care
A Pilbara mum who chose to birth with WA Country Health Service Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) said it’s one of the best decisions she has made.
Ebony and husband Dan engaged the Karratha Health Campus-run service ahead of the birth of their third son.
The practice connects women and families with a midwife who provides care for them throughout the pregnancy, during labour and birth, and postnatally.
“From the moment we met Sheree, my husband and I felt so relaxed and we knew that in this pregnancy and birth journey we would be well taken care of.
“To have the continuity of care with such a small team felt much more personal than what we had previously experienced.”
Ebony said the flexibility to have at home appointments made the pregnancy journey incredibly special for the whole family.
“It was so beautiful for our older kids to be involved in the care of their new sibling even before they were here.”
“Sheree made them feel comfortable, showed them her equipment, explained what was happening and allowed them to participate in the antenatal care of their new sibling.”
With the support of the Sheree and the local team, Ebony says she had a dream labour and water birth experience at the hospital.
“Upon our arrival, the birth bath was ready for us and shortly after getting in the water our little boy arrived.
“Sheree and the midwives created a calm, relaxed and supportive environment in which to give birth.”
“The aftercare was outstanding, and we all felt incredibly supported.”
“Having given birth twice before I wish I’d had this last experience with all three.”
“I could not recommend the MGP enough, the love, care and support is second to none.”
WA Country Health Service A/Pilbara Executive Director Karen De bonde said Ebony’s message thanking Sheree and the team was encouraging to see.
“We are very proud of our Midwifery Group Practice staff and this recognition lets them see just how valued they are by the community.
“We are so glad to hear that Sheree’s care was so reassuring and had such a positive impact on Ebony and her family.”
“Every year Karratha Health Campus supports around 300 women to birth locally and it’s programs like this which help deliver the best outcomes for newborns and their families.”
