Will you be a voice for your community?
The Collie District Health Advisory Council (DHAC) is looking for passionate locals to become members and help improve health outcomes for the Collie community.
District Health Advisory Councils are advisory bodies made up of members of the local community, health service consumers, health service representatives and carers, and aim to represent and advocate for community health interests.
WA Country Health Service Inland Southwest District Director Jeremy Higgins said insight provided by DHAC members is invaluable.
“Nobody knows your community like you do,” he said.
“As health service provider working in the regions it’s so important that we listen to and work with local community members to deliver the best possible health outcomes.”
As part of their role, DHAC members provide the important perspective of someone who uses, or whose family uses health services in the local area.
They also share ideas and consult on projects to help ensure that the health services on offer are reflective of the community’s needs.
Collie Shire President and DHAC member Ian Miffling said the role is an important, but rewarding one.
“Country health decisions need to be based on country community needs,” he said.
“We know there are people out there with great ideas; we need them to put their hands up to be part of the DHAC so those ideas can help make a positive change.”
