Aboriginal Health Champions Program goes from strength to strength
We are excited to announce that our third cohort of Aboriginal Health Champion Program participants have recently been onboarded.
Aboriginal Health Champions Program participants are WA Country Health Service staff who have been recognised for engaging respectfully with Aboriginal consumers, carers, families, and colleagues, while delivering culturally responsive care.
Aboriginal staff, consumers, and community members can nominate participants, with all WA Country Health Service staff eligible.
Successfully nominated participants take part in a full-day learning session delivered by the Aboriginal Health Strategy team.
The session formally welcomes participants to the program and is designed to develop the practical skills and cultural capabilities needed to provide respectful, culturally safe, and responsive care to Aboriginal patients.
Course objectives include:
-
Defining the role of participants
-
Participant expectations
-
Learning opportunities and supports
-
Participant Action Plan
-
Completion of a self-reflection and activity workbook
WA Country Health Service Director of Aboriginal Health Strategy Russell Simpson said the program was going from strength to strength.
“Since March of this year, we have onboarded 19 program participants,” Mr Simpson said.
“I am so proud of the Aboriginal Health Strategy team and how much they have achieved.
“To have inducted that many participants in four months, is nothing short of astounding.”
Once inducted, participants continue their learning with ongoing activities throughout the year.
Do you know a WA Country Health Service worker who demonstrates an ongoing commitment to providing culturally safe care? Nominate them today.
