Concrete progress at new Tom Price Hospital as slab poured
Construction of the State Government's $92.8 million new Tom Price Hospital has reached a significant milestone, with the first major concrete pour for the facility's foundation slab.
The project, backed by a $20 million commitment from Rio Tinto, will provide a modern, purpose-built hospital to support the healthcare needs of the Tom Price community.
The new facility will include a contemporary emergency department, primary care services, private consultation rooms, a four-bed inpatient ward, as well as dental and pathology services.
Early works for the project were completed this year, including critical flood mitigation and site preparation. A second package of works is now underway, focusing on construction of the building slab, installation of in-ground services and structural components.
New access points and roads have been established to support construction and future hospital operations, while essential services, including water, sewer, stormwater and power, have been connected to the existing town infrastructure.
The site has been carefully prepared for construction, with inground services installed, protective barriers put in place, and reinforcement laid to ensure structural integrity.
The concrete pour comprised approximately 80 cubic metres of concrete. A further 12 pours are scheduled between now and October 2026 to complete the hospital's structural base and frame.
The project is also delivering strong benefits for the local economy, with materials such as sand and crushed stone sourced from nearby quarries and concrete supplied by a local plant, supporting regional businesses and jobs.
Importantly, core hospital services will remain operational throughout construction to ensure continued access to care for the community.
The new hospital is on track for completion in late 2027.
These investments form part of the State Government's record $5.5 billion health infrastructure program, focused on ensuring more Western Australians can access the care they need, when they need it.
