Collie ED soars above – fast diagnosis and air transfer win applause
When an early-morning patient presented to Collie Hospital experiencing concerning symptoms, the stellar Collie Emergency Department (ED) team leaped immediately into action.
“My mum presented to ED at 7.30 in the morning with numbness in her hand and feeling shaky,” the patient’s daughter shared through an appreciative post on Care Opinion Australia.
Amid a busy morning in the department, Clinical Nurses Carys and Savannah responded immediately.
“ED nurses Carys and Savannah are amazing.
“They took her straight through,” the daughter said.
“They started doing all the relevant tests, even though they had three or four other patients and had everything organised for Dr Gary.”
In a seamless handover with Dr Gary, the patient received a prompt and thorough diagnosis.
A well-coordinated turnaround saw the patient transferred by air to Fiona Stanley Hospital within just a few hours of presenting to Collie.
The patient’s daughter offered heartfelt praise and admiration for the team’s confidence and calm composure, which created a positive ripple effect on the day.
“Well done, Carys, Savannah and Dr Gary.
“You are awesome, thank you.”
Savannah and Carys highlighted the team’s strong and effective collaboration when delivering care in a regional hospital, where coordinating swift patient transfers is vital and seconds count.
“The team at Collie work really well together to provide a high level of care for all patients that present to our emergency department,” they said.
“Wishing your mum a speedy recovery.”
Director of Nursing Barry Moroney reflected on the patient’s endorsement of the team and their ongoing commitment to patient-centred care for the Collie community.
“Savannah, Carys and Dr Gary, like all the Collie team, continue to provide a great service to our community,” Barry said.
