Far from home, Kiwi cared for by Broome’s best
A trip to the Kimberley that led one New Zealander to seek care at Broome Hospital, turned out to be more than your average outback adventure.
When told a seemingly minor skin issue could be far more serious, they decided to get checked out, later taking to Care Opinion to celebrate the care delivered by our next-level team.
“Panicking a little, I walked into the Emergency Department at Broome Hospital,” they shared.
“The reception, the nurse who did my initial consult, the nurse who took my temperature and blood pressure, and Dr Jon who saw me were all brilliant.”
As a shining example of stellar teamwork in action, the patient was grateful to receive the right care and treatment when they needed it most.
“What a great team of people to have in Broome, I can't thank them enough.
“Huge shoutout to all of them – thank you to you all.”
Humbled by the recent recognition, Dr Jon directed the praise to the “outstanding team” for their quick thinking and ongoing commitment to patient experience.
“They make my job so much easier and for that I am sincerely grateful,” he said.
Aware that health issues can escalate without warning, Dr Jon said he prioritises prompt intervention at the earliest signs of concern.
“Sometimes we look after people having a bad day, their worst day or one that just did not go to plan.
“If any of us can make a difference, then that is a job well done and worth doing.”
For A/Director of Nursing and Midwifery Jayne Woodley-Page, the Broome ED team’s achievement reflects the level of compassionate care they strive to meet and exceed each shift.
“Receiving feedback like this is a reminder of the positive impact our staff have on the community every day,” Jayne said.
“We're grateful for the recognition and proud to work alongside our local healthcare colleagues to deliver safe, timely and compassionate care.”
District Director James Sherriff applauded the team for the stellar impact they made, delivering swift, empathetic care that makes a “positive difference” for each and every patient.
“It’s reassuring to hear that the team at Broome Hospital provided clear, efficient care during a challenging situation,” James said.
“From reception through to the nursing staff and Dr Jon, each step of the process was handled with professionalism and attention to detail, highlighting the consistent standard of care delivered by the team and reflects well on the service they provide to the community.”
