Centralised application process
The centralised 2026 Intern and Resident Medical Officer (RMO) recruitment application process will open soon:
- 2026 WA Intern position applications open Tuesday 6 May 2025 and close Thursday 5 June 2025.
- 2026 WA RMO / Service Medical Registrar (SMR) position applications open Monday 26 May 2025 and close Monday 23 June 2025.
Overview of Intern positions
Interns wishing to complete their whole internship year in country WA have the option of selecting WA Country Health Service (WACHS) as their preferred employer during the recruitment process. Intern placements are available in 2026 at Albany Health Campus, Broome Health Campus, Bunbury Hospital and Geraldton Regional Hospital.
Rural secondments for metropolitan employed interns are also available for one or more term rotations from Joondalup Health Campus, Fiona Stanley Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
Resident Medical Officers (RMO)
WA Country Health Service RMO positions are available to PGY2+ doctors either as a primary employer for periods of six to 36 months, or through secondment at some metropolitan sites.

Community Residency Program (CRP) - Resident Medical Officers
In 2025, RMOs employed by Fiona Stanley Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital or Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital have the opportunity to undertake a term-long (10-11 week) CRP placement in various rural locations.

- RMOs should express their interest in a rural CRP placement via the separate MedCareersWA vacancy "2025 Rural Community Residency Program". This process is separate from the centralised application process for RMOs and SMRs.
- Applicants need to submit a CV and a short statement (maximum two pages) outlining the motivation for participating in a rural CRP placement, relevant skills brought to the role, and anticipated career benefits from the placement.
- Submissions will be reviewed by a panel to assess suitability.
- Placement offers for the 2025 clinical year will commence from October 2024.

Applied Surgical Pathway in Rural Environments (ASPIRE)
Recruitment to the ASPIRE program is advertised via MedCareersWA. Successful entry to the program will include employment with WACHS for the duration of the program.

Rural Adult Physician Training, Opportunities and Rotations (RAPTOR) One
Recruitment to RAPTOR One is advertised via MedCareersWA. Successful entry to the program will include employment with WACHS for the duration of the program.
