About the District Health Advisory Councils

What is a District Health Advisory Council (DHAC)?

DHACs are made up of local health consumer, carers, and community members, as well as health service representatives, who work together with WACHS to improve and inform health service planning, access, safety and quality in their area.

These Advisory Councils aim to represent a cross-section of community health interests, with a particular focus on accessing and understanding the needs of those experiencing poorer health outcomes and access.

How does a DHAC work?

At a local level

DHAC members talk with local citizens, carers, and community groups to find out what health issues and services matter to them. They meet regularly to represent and discuss these issues, and share ideas for improving health services. They also partner with the local health service in improvement activities and promote health information and services to the community.

At a state level

The DHAC Chairs Network, comprising of the Chair of each DHAC, meet face-to-face at least once a year to provide state-wide information on country health issues and priorities to the Minister for Health, Director General of the Department of Health, Chief Executive Officer of WACHS and other senior staff.
