Completed project - Pingelly and Cunderdin Health Centres

The Southern Inland Health Initiative’s $300 million capital works program included about $40 million to redevelop and reform small hospitals in Cunderdin, Pingelly, Mullewa and Dongara to create contemporary fit-for-purpose health centres.

Project overview

The innovative health centres at Pingelly and Cunderdin were a first for the Wheatbelt.  The centres replaced small hospitals offering limited in-patient care, and focus on providing more primary health initiatives that keep people well in the community and out of hospital through:

  • promotion of good health
  • prevention and early detection of illness
  • management of chronic disease.

The new health centres were developed in consultation with the local communities at Cunderdin and Pingelly, and give the community access to a range of health services and providers under one roof.

In addition to enhanced primary and community care facilities, the health centres continue to provide 24/7 emergency care from an upgraded emergency department.

To complement the new health centres in Cunderdin and Pingelly, suitable age-appropriate accommodation has been built alongside, providing an innovative solution to contemporary age-care needs.

The Pingelly Health Centre was officially opened in November 2018.

Construction of the Cunderdin Health Centre was completed in November 2018 and the Centre became operational in January 2019.

The Pingelly and Cunderdin Health Centres include:

  • contemporary emergency departments
  • Emergency Telehealth Service videoconferencing facilities
  • general practice consultation rooms and treatment spaces.
  • group therapy rooms
  • four multi-purpose consult rooms enabled with telehealth
  • ambulance bays.
