Building of new Cunderdin Health Centre begins 07 November 2017 Building of the new health centre in Cunderdin commenced in early October and the slab is due to be poured in November. The new health centre, which is being built by Firm Constructions, will replace Cunderdin Hospital and promises a new era for local health care. WA Country Health Service Wheatbelt Regional Director Sean Conlan said the new health centre would focus on promoting good health, preventing illness, and the management of chronic disease. “Modern health care is about people staying well so they can minimise time in hospital," he said. GPs impressed with behind the scenes tour of hospital 02 November 2017 Members of the Warren Medical Advisory Committee, a group made up of medical practitioners and WA Country Health Service (WACHS) operational staff, recently toured the construction site of the new $39.3million Warren Health Service. WACHS South West Regional Director Kerry Winsor said the outside structure of the building was largely completed and that work had begun in earnest on the inside. “The internal fittings of the inpatient ward and emergency department are currently being completed. Pilbara in the spotlight during WACHS Board visit 24 October 2017 The health needs of the diverse Pilbara community will be in the spotlight this week as Board Members visit the region for a series of regional engagement meetings and presentations. Led by Board Chair Professor Neale Fong, the WACHS Board will meet with regional Pilbara staff and representatives of key organisations including the local District Health Advisory Committee (DHAC) and Aboriginal Medical Services (AMS). Stakeholders tour emergency department 24 October 2017 Members of the local District Health Advisory Council were given a sneak peek of the new emergency department at the Merredin Health Service recently. Wheatbelt Regional Director Sean Conlan led the tour after his annual meeting with the council. “The District Health Advisory Council (DHAC) provides a vital link to the consumer, carer and community perspective and it’s important to keep them informed and engaged,” Mr Conlan said. “Partnering consumer representative groups like DHACs gives us the chance to learn from consumers and improve the health care experiences of our communities.” The new emergency department was finished on 24 October and staff should start treating patients in the emergency department around mid-November. Boddington Health Service refurbishment complete 17 October 2017 The refurbishment of the Boddington Health Service is now complete. Wheatbelt Regional Director Sean Conlan said that the refurbished health facilities would make a significant contribution to improving the standard and efficiency of health care in the local community. “Boddington is just one of many small hospitals and health centres in the Wheatbelt that has underdone or is undergoing refurbishment,” Mr Conlan said. “It is important to invest in regional health care and ensure that facilities continue to be modernised.” As part of the refurbishment the health service received an upgraded main entrance and waiting area, a new room in the emergency department dedicated to triage, a new communications rooms, a redeveloped and upgraded kitchen, a new disabled toilet and the staff reception area was relocated.
