Merredin ED reaches half-way point 14 July 2017 Merredin Health Service’s new emergency department has become a reality with construction well underway. Wheatbelt Regional Director Sean Conlan said construction started in February this year and that the building’s frames, roof and structural walls have been completed. “The community will be pleased to see the new ED taking shape and to know that it is on track to be completed by October this year,” Mr Conlan said. “Builders are currently installing air-conditioning ductwork, communications cables, electrical wiring and medical gases into the building. “Thanks to the Southern Inland Health Initiative’s $300 million capital works project, Merredin is just one of many hospital and health centres to be upgraded. “Redevelopments such as those happening throughout the Wheatbelt mean that we can continue to offer high quality care to our patien...

Builder chosen for Williams Health Centre 10 July 2017 Pindan Contracting Pty Ltd has won the contract to redevelop the Williams Health Centre as part of an extensive capital works program taking place under the Southern Inland Health Initiative. WA Country Health Service Wheatbelt Regional Director Sean Conlan said the redevelopment would deliver important improvements for the local community. “We are committed to ensuring our country hospitals and health centres continue to be equipped to deliver health care locally into the future,” he said. “As part of the redevelopment Williams Health Centre will receive a new building, including entry, reception and waiting room, a new emergency treatment bay and three consultation rooms.” The new building will also include a new ambulance set down area, a meeting room, staff offices and workstations, store rooms, and new toilets including one with disabled access. Home-grown talent produces healing art 10 July 2017 A well regarded West Australian artist who was born in the Wheatbelt town of Cunderdin has been fittingly commissioned to produce artwork for the new Cunderdin Health Centre under the State Government’s Percent for Art Scheme. WA Country Health Service Wheatbelt Regional Director Sean Conlan said Jennifer Hopewell’s submission focused on producing artwork that reflected the bushland and surrounding farming settlements in the Cunderdin area. “Jennifer’s artwork will beautify the Cunderdin Health Centre and will be enjoyed by both visitors and staff alike,” Mr Conlan said. “Using a full-colour glass printing process, Jennifer’s artwork will be transferred onto windows and automatic sliding doors to provide privacy and aid in orientation and wayfinding around the health centre. “She will also produce a suite of aluminium screens which will be ...

New section of ED open at Collie Health Service 04 July 2017 The redevelopment of the emergency department at the Collie Health Service is now complete. Staff will transition into the new part of the emergency department on Tuesday 11 July 2017. WA Country Health Service South West Regional Director Kerry Winsor said that there would be no change to the entrance or parking at the hospital and that the local community should continue to present to emergency via the main entrance. “Staff will be particularly busy on Tuesday July 11 as they transition into the new section of the ED and familiarise themselves with the facilities,” Ms Winsor said. “For patients presenting to ED with non-urgent medical issues, longer than usual waiting times may be experienced. “We thank the local community in advance for their patience and understanding on this day.” The $7.8 million Collie Health Service redevelopment is part of the Sou...
