    New Cunderdin Health Centre becomes operational 29 January 2019 The innovative new Cunderdin Health Centre is now in use by the local community after recently opening its doors. Wheatbelt Regional Director Sean Conlan said the centre promises a new era in health care with a focus on promoting good health, preventing illness and the management of chronic disease. “The new centre will give the local community improved primary health and community care facilities to keep people healthy and well in the region,” said Mr Conlan. The new Health Centre which replaces the old Cunderdin hospital was developed in consultation with the local community and gives the community access to a range of health services and providers under one roof. In addition to enhanced primary and community care services the health centre provides 24/7 emergency care from a state-of-the-art, modern emergency department with Emergency Telehealth equipment.   • Change to emergency department location at Northam Health Service 25 January 2019 The redevelopment of the $42 million Northam Health Service is progressing well and the refurbishment of the emergency department is now complete. From 10 am on Wednesday 6 February 2019, visitors to the Health Service will access emergency services via the new public entrance to the emergency department which is located on Robinson St, in Northam. WA Country Health Service Wheatbelt Regional Director Sean Conlan said visitors to the emergency department should experience a seamless transition to the outstanding new facilities with the planned relocation of services to the new area in advance of the opening. “We thank the local community in advance for their patience and understanding as we transition to our improved emergency department,” Mr Conlan said.     Narrogin receives maternity reaccreditation following perfect score 22 January 2019 Narrogin Health Campus received a perfect assessment score from the Baby Friendly Health Initiative in its maternity facility reaccreditation. The Australian College of Midwives which assess accreditations found that Narrogin Health Campus met the criteria to an excellent standard across all assessment areas and received a score of 100% for implementing each of the10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. Nav St. Louis, Program Manager at the Australian College of Midwives said the accomplishment was a reflection of the health service’s passion and commitment to supportive breastfeeding culture. “It took a lot of effort and dedication and Narrogin Health Campus deserves this recognition for its continuing commitment to women and families in the Wheatbelt,” Nav St. Louis said.     Esperance Health Campus operating theatre treats record number of patients in 2018 21 January 2019 A record breaking number of patients received treatment at the Esperance Health Campus operating theatre in 2018. The operating team completed more than 1000 elective and emergency procedures last year, an increase of 145 procedures compared to the previous year. The WA Country Health Service A/Regional Director (Goldfields) Carol Erlank said that she’s proud of what the team has achieved in the new theatre less than three years on from its first procedure in March 2016. “Esperance Health Campus’ new and expanded facilities are being put to good use with 1045 procedures in 2018 alone,” she said.     Outstanding mentor in Pilbara’s Population Health team 10 January 2019 Kianna Barker from the WA Country Health Service’s Pilbara Population Health team was awarded the Outstanding Mentor in Health Promotion award at last month’s Australian Health Promotion Association (WA Branch) awards night. The annual awards acknowledge excellence and leadership in health promotion across the nation and provide an opportunity for health promotion professionals to be recognised by colleagues and peers for their commitment and innovation. Ms Barker’s award was in recognition of her substantial health promotion knowledge and experience as well as her support and encouragement for the next generation of health promotion practitioners.
