Redevelopment of Newman Health Service a step closer with building contract awarded 30 June 2020 Newman is set to be home to a state-of-the-art hospital thanks to a $61.4 million redevelopment supported with a $15 million contribution from BHP Iron Ore (BHP). ADCO Constructions Pty Ltd were today announced as the successful tenderer for the construction of the new Newman Health Service. The construction, commencing in July, is expected to create more than 300 local jobs with the new, fully integrated health service set to be operational by mid-2023. The new facility includes twelve inpatient beds, six emergency department bays, two dental chairs and six GP consult spaces. There will also be dedicated rooms for outpatient consults, therapy, medical imaging and pathology. Other health services such physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy counselling, community health nursing and mental health will also be housed in the new building. Modern aged and palliative care facility on track for Carnarvon 26 June 2020 A brand new $18.8 million residential aged and palliative care facility for Carnarvon is a step closer with local Midwest business Crothers Construction Pty Ltd awarded the tender, enabling residents to occupy the facility in early 2022. The 38-bed purpose-built facility will support approximately 150 local jobs during construction. The modern building will be co-located at the Carnarvon Health Campus and will enable the integration with other health services. Works include the construction of flexible spaces to cater for varying resident needs such as accommodation for couples and family members and will ensure local people feel at home while accessing culturally appropriate care in their local community. Research key to unlocking early signs of chronic kidney disease 23 June 2020 The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is leading ground-breaking research which could ease the burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD) on patients and health services. As part of the Digital Health Cooperative Research Centre, WACHS is collaborating with Curtin University, the WA Department of Health and WA Primary Health Alliance, using health data analytics to better identify and manage CKD across country WA. Curtin University PhD student David Lim will join WACHS, tasked with analysing the data as part of his doctorate in Public Health. David says the WACHS partnership is crucial to the project. Quad bike related injuries affect riders who use quad bikes for both work and recreational purposes. However, these injuries are avoidable. The amount of quad bike related injuries can be reduced by: • Using personal protection equipment (including a helmet, eye protection, enclosed footwear, high-visibility clothing, hearing protection and safe clothing). • Undertaking pre-operational checks to ensure the vehicle is safe. • Only operating equipment that is regularly maintained. • Riding in pairs. • Informing others where they plan on traveling and when they expect to return. • Never operating a quad bike when affected by fatigue, drugs or alcohol. • Never allowing children under the age of 16 to operate a q...
