New CT scanner to bring cutting edge technology to Karratha, cut travel 23 August 2017 When the $207.15 million Karratha Health Campus opens its doors to the public for the first time next year, it will feature cutting edge technology including a brand new 64-slice CT scanner. The scanner is expected to make a vital difference to the diagnosis and follow-up care of patients in Karratha and the West Pilbara, and reduce their need for travel. New health service taking shape 22 August 2017 Construction of the new Warren Health Service in Manjimup is over half-way with rammed-earth walls and roof now completed. South West Regional Director Kerry Winsor said construction started in September last year and despite inclement weather through winter, the project was still running to plan. “The community will be pleased to see the new health service taking shape and to know that the new build is on track to be completed and operational by the middle of 2018,” Ms Winsor said. “Demolition of the existing hospital, site clean-up and landscaping is planned to be completed towards the end of 2018.” Work has now started in earnest on the inside of the building with the focus being on preparing the walls and installing ceilings and windows. GPs inspect Katanning Health Service build 01 August 2017 Local general practitioners (GPs) were among a number of health workers invited to tour the new build section of the $32 million redevelopment of the Katanning Health Service recently. WA Country Health Service Regional Director David Naughton said the tour provided a good opportunity to show the local GPs what facilities would be available and to orientate them with the new emergency department where they would be providing on-call assistance in emergency situations. “The new build will incorporate a state-of-the-art emergency department with five treatment bays, two of which will be equipped with Emergency Telehealth Services, a procedure room and a consultation room,” Mr Naughton said. “Located adjacent to the emergency department will be a new medical imaging department and an expanded outpatient facility with increased telehealth capacity allowing patients to speak... -
Merredin ED reaches half-way point 14 July 2017 Merredin Health Service’s new emergency department has become a reality with construction well underway. Wheatbelt Regional Director Sean Conlan said construction started in February this year and that the building’s frames, roof and structural walls have been completed. “The community will be pleased to see the new ED taking shape and to know that it is on track to be completed by October this year,” Mr Conlan said. “Builders are currently installing air-conditioning ductwork, communications cables, electrical wiring and medical gases into the building. “Thanks to the Southern Inland Health Initiative’s $300 million capital works project, Merredin is just one of many hospital and health centres to be upgraded. “Redevelopments such as those happening throughout the Wheatbelt mean that we can continue to offer high quality care to our patien...
